Is the price the tool gives me binding?
It is a real, itemised price built from what you picked, not a teaser to get you on a call — but it is not a contract yet. The scoping conversation confirms the details, and the number is then fixed in writing before any work starts. If scoping turns up something that genuinely changes the job, you are told before it changes the price, not afterwards.
Do I have to hand over my details to see the number?
No. Answer the questions and the price appears. Your details are only needed if you want the quote sent to you or want to take it further.
What if I do not know exactly what I need?
Most people do not, which is what the questions are for — they are written in terms of what your business does rather than what a developer would call it. Pick the closest thing and treat the result as a starting figure. If you are somewhere between two options, the free tech audit is the better route, and it costs nothing.
How does payment work?
Half on starting, half on completion. No monthly licence, no per-user fee, VAT at 20% added on top, and no charge for the scoping conversation that comes first. Hosting and care are optional and separate — £30/month for hosting, SSL, daily backups, security updates and monitoring, £75 to add 2 hours of changes a month, £150 for 4 hours and priority response. Unused change time carries into the next month but no further, and anything past what your plan covers is quoted as a fixed price first rather than billed after. Three-month minimum on any of them, and you can host it yourself instead.
What happens if the scope changes halfway through?
New ideas mid-build are normal and welcome. They are quoted as their own fixed-price increment, so you always decide with the number in front of you rather than finding it on an invoice at the end. The original price does not move on its own.
Why is this cheaper than the agency quote I already have?
Usually because there is no account manager, no sales team and no city office in the number — the person who scopes your project is the person who builds it. Where a quote here is higher than one you have, it is worth comparing what each includes: discovery, data migration, testing and training are often the difference, and the cheaper quote frequently treats them as extras.
